A really good song with lyrics that give me something more to latch onto with each listen.

Eddie Vedder wrote the lyrics when travelling from San Diego, where he lived, to Seattle where he was meeting the other band members for the first time in November 1990. It was recorded in spring 1991 and released as part of their debuted 13x platinum album Ten. The song is deliberately vague to leave it open to interpretation. However, it does seem to centre on a romantic breakup. During live performances, Eddie Vedder uses the long instrumental break to hang off of railings, jump into the crowd, or climb the set as he famously did at Lollapalooza 1992.
