“Swingin' Magic” is the fourth Japanese digital single for girl group ILLIT. The single marks the second time the group has worked with writer Kanata Okajima (岡嶋かな多), after previously working with her on their second Japanese single album “I Got Your Back”. Its meaning plays with the idea of swinging back and forth from dreams to reality. The lyrics describe that fluttery feeling of meeting someone special, with imagery around magic, colors, and harmony. “Swingin' Magic” also takes heavy inspiration from New Jack Swing, giving the song a much more vibrant rhythm compared to ILLIT’s usually more minimalistic sound. When “Swingin' Magic” was released on September 20, 2026, it was made to accompany Magical Sisters LuluttoLilly, an anime that would release about two weeks later. Interestingly enough, ILLIT had also sang the opening for the show’s first cour.

My favorite 5th generation K-pop group "ILLIT" comes back with a brand new single called "Swingin' Magic" that I immediately loved on first listen. It has a breakcore-esc instrumental and the general melody is fantastic on this song. It kind of reminds me a bit of the "How Sweet" era of "NewJeans" and I don't know if this is just recency bias but I think ILLIT's song is better. I think every member of ILLIT contributes greatly to the aesthetic this song brings out, having great layering behind the instrumental and all of the members vocals, creating a very nice constant flow throughout the song ! I hope they continue with this aesthetic in a future project the drop in tandem with this single.
